Per the Florida Rules for Certification and Regulation of Spoken Language Court InterpretersPDF Download, a committee or panel of the Court Interpreter Certification Board may impose sanctions as a means of disciplinary dispositions, which may include a public reprimand (rules 14.410(d) and 14.430(c)(2)).

Summary of Sanctions:  Suspension of official state-level designation for six (6) months; a public reprimand in accordance with Board Operating Procedure 4.04; assessment of reasonable costs and expenses incurred by the investigative committee and the hearing panel; attend five (5) hours of ethics continuing education from a program approved by the board or attend the two-day orientation program administered by the Office of the State Courts Administrator; and, may seek reinstatement at the conclusion of the suspension documenting compliance with all sanctions.

Findings:  Mr. Rivera-Navas knowingly misrepresented that a designated court interpreter (Complainant) worked for his agency and was able to secure an interpreting assignment using the Complainant’s name and credentials in violation of the Code of Professional Conduct.
